The purpose is to help overcome municipal solid waste challenges by determining ways to scale up efforts in organic waste management in the four selected countries of South Asia. As more than 70 percent of municipal solid waste in this region is biodegradable (organic), an enormous potential exists to improve existing operations and to provide positive economic and environmental benefits, including increased revenue generation through carbon co-financing and Clean Development Mechanism.
