Description of work:
The UNESCAP project on Solid Waste Management, under the supervision of the Chief of the Poverty Reduction Section (Poverty and Development Division), has adapted the innovative community-based composting model of Waste Concern (Bangladesh), and is currently testing it in two pilot schemes in Quy Nhon, Vietnam and Matale, Sri Lanka. The aim of the project is to provide towns across the Asia-Pacific region with an innovative, replicable model of community-based solid waste management, as well as with financing options for the model’s implementation, replication and up-scaling using carbon trade.
