Seminar Workshop on Integrated Resource Recovery and Urban Waste Management with Focus on FSM

Waste United Nations- Economic and Social Commission for the Asia and Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in collaboration with Waste Concern organized  a Training Workshop on Integrated Resource Recovery and Urban Waste Management  with Focus on FSM held from 27-29 November 2018 in Dhaka and Kushtia, Bangladesh. 5 (five) honorable mayors from the Dhankuta Municipality, Sub-Metropolitan City, Waling Municipality, Palungtar Municipality and  Sandhikharka Municipality participated in this workshop. Along with the mayors under secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General

Administration, Executive Director of the Solid Waste Management Technical Support Center, Kathmandu, Solid Waste Management Expert from Koteswar, Kathmandu and Economic Affairs Officer from Environment and Development Division, UN-ESCAP participated in this three day long event. The major objective of this training workshop was to enhance the capacity of local/provincial government officials including Mayors and central government representatives from Nepal who are involved in urban waste management. This three day event includes a study visit to Faecal.

Sludge Treatment Plant (FSTP) in Kushtia Municipality which was established in 2005 by the Government of Bangladesh with the technical support from Waste Concern. Later in the year 2012 UN-ESCAP with technical support from Waste Concern constructed coco peat filtration system to treat percolate from drying beds. The FSTP demonstrates application of resource recovery and circular economy approaches and public private partnership model in  co –treatment of urban waste and faecal sludge.  Kushtia co-compost plant is the first plant in Bangladesh treating both solid waste and faecal sludge.
