Waste Concern was founded in 1995 with the motto “ Waste is a Resource”. Later Waste Concern Group was formed to achieve a common vision to contribute towards waste recycling, environmental improvement, renewable energy, poverty reduction through job creation, and sustainable development.Waste Concern Group is a Social Business Enterprise (SBE) comprising both “For Profit” and “Not-for Profit” enterprises.

Waste Concern Consultants is a leading consultancy firm based in Bangladesh, providing consulting services and project assistance since 2000. Waste Concern and Waste Concern Consultants are sister organizations with a common vision to contribute to poverty reduction,waste recycling,environmental improvement and sustainable development.

1995

Waste Concern starts operation. Waste Concern Initiated the model of a Decentralized community-based composting Initiative in Bangladesh

2000

Waste Concern Consultants starts operation to provide consultancy services on waste management , sanitation, climate change mitigation

2005

ESCAP started to replicate the model of Waste Concern in Vietnam, Sri Lanka. Replications of this model in cities/ towns of Bangladesh.

2005

Waste Concern and worldwide Recycling BV jointly prepares baseline methodology for avoided methane emission from organic waste through composting. The methodology was approved by UNFCCC

2008

Waste Concern Established Globally first compost plant based on carbon trading in Dhaka, Bangladesh

2009

ESCAP in partnership with Waste Concern launched a regional project called Pro-Poor and Sustainable Solid Waste Management in Secondary Cities and Small Towns in Asian-Pacific.

2012

ESCAP in partnership with Waste Concern launched a project entitled Co-composting of Municipal Solid Waste and FS for Agriculture in Kushtia city, Bangladesh

2016

ESCAP in partnership with Waste Concern initiated co-composting and biogas to electricity general project using organic waste and faecal sludge in Malang Regency and Jambi city, Indonesia.

2016

Asian Development Bank financed a Regional Landfill with Recycling facility having composing, biogas to electricity, faecal sludge recycling, and controlled landfill using the concept of IRRC

2020

Waste Concern Consultants initiated legacy waste management in Laos and integrated landfill and resource recovery approach

2022

WCC designed decentralized waste waster system of LICs of Chittagong city corporation

2023

WCC designed integrated landfill and resource recovery project and regional waste treatment facilities for 26 towns in Bangladesh. The project was funded by AIIB
